Back about the middle of
the last decade, the only poker bots you would find playing in
online games were in the low stakes fixed limit games. It was
thought that they were the best target for such software, being as
the game is simpler without having the element of bet sizes to deal
with. In fact to this day the OPI Bots still only play these games,
usually the very lowest stakes like .25/.50, in an attempt to grind
out rakeback.
The popularity of No
Limit Holdem exploded however, and with that some determined and
creative individuals have adapted poker bots to play in these games.
As a result it was discovered that they are actually much easier to
beat. This is because your opponents will make much more expensive
mistakes in No Limit. In Fixed Limit they rarely make mistakes that
cost them more than a couple of bets, and calling for pot odds is
actually a good play there even when holding what is obviously the
worst hand.
In fact in the Bonus Bots
support forum there are very few, if any, fixed limit profiles.
Beating anything more than the micro stakes in Fixed Limit has
proven to be more difficult than beating similar stakes games in No
Limit. It is in fact a more complicated game because the correct
play is harder to figure out.
That doesn't mean you
cannot write a good Limit profile. If this is your game, we
encourage you to give it a go. You will have less competition from
bots and may even be able to charge a hefty price for it in the
forum!
